Kaizen Fine Art

Figures is James Kerry Baldwin's second exhibition at Kaizen Fine Art. It gathers eleven paintings — nine of them begun in Madrid and completed in London, carried across a move and resolved in the studio on the edge of a forest outside the city.

Baldwin is an abstract painter first; none of the works begin as figures. The turbulence comes first, and only sometimes does a figure emerge from it. In these paintings a calm exterior holds an interior that refuses to stay neat — a reflection of a truth he keeps returning to: that how a person appears to the world so often doesn't match what they carry inside. His hope is that the work inspires compassion.
